We had to cut down the biggest tree on Selah recently – a ponderosa pine. The base of its trunk had gotten damaged far before we bought Selah, and ants & critters had eaten into it quite a bit. It was starting to lean more and more each year, and we asked a tree guy how long it had left, he said “maybe 5 to 8 years.”
It was about 5′ in diameter and 250′ long – it fell exactly as planned. Per the rings, it looks to be a 300 year old tree. Too bad – good by old fella!
